The population of teenagers using e-cigarettes, “vapes”, is at an all-time high. Our recent experiences here at OCHS are not unlike most high schools across the country.  It appears that more and more students are carrying and using vapes.

We join the medical profession and law enforcement in the effort to educate students and families on the dangers and uncertainties associated with vaping.  The most common type of vaping oils that we are seeing is the liquid nicotine flavored pods.   One pod can easily contain nicotine equal to a pack of cigarettes.  The devices are small and lightweight that have charging abilities with an iPhone charger or USB port.  The oil flavors vary and often are candy or fruit flavored.  The days of smelling smoke have been replaced by these scents or even no scent at all. It is also possible that these devices can be used for marijuana and other illegal substances in oil form.

E-cigarettes and vapes are not permitted on school grounds and students found in violation are addressed through the Student Code of Conduct.
